Olive oil benefits – skin, face and hair

Olives are timeless as are the beauty secrets they contain.  For thousands of years, olives have provided people with oils to ensure healthy and long lasting skin.  Today we see that the beauty products are a multi-billion dollar industry.  Many of the top grade and most popular products you’ll find include olive oil as an ingredient and with good reason.  However, it’s worth noting that much of this is mimicking what has been done for millenia already – taking advantage of the wonderful health and beauty properties of the amazing olive.

There are several important properties that make olive oil good for your skin, face, and hair.

Olive oil is rich in vitamins that have have been proven over time to be good for skin and hair. Primary among them is vitamin E.  The vitamin E in olive oil has been shown to help prevent dandruff.  Mix a tablespoon or so into your shampoo and see the benefits.  Or, as many people have reported doing, use olive oil on damp hair and cover it with a shower cap for 30-60 minutes and then rinse.  Vitamin E and the polyphenols in olive oil are potent antioxidants that help neutralize free radicals that could otherwise damage your skin and hair.

Olive oil is also great for dry skin treatment.  You can buy lotions that use olive oil as an ingredient or, as many folks do, just add a bit of olive oil to you lotions and creams you already use.  Olive oil is often credited with solving irritated or inflamed skin as well so if you are dealing with this, try a bit of olive oil to see if it helps.

You’ll find olive oil infused soaps in abundance.  For those of us that believe in the powers of the olive, these soaps are a staple to ensure our skin and hair receives continuous treatment to remain young and vibrant.
